In case you missed - How to Grow a Sales Team: A Recruiter's Perspective, we put together some Event Cliff Notes for you and we hope you join us next time.

What are recruiters looking for when hiring sales people?

Prepared Candidates: Do they know the company's target customers, competitors and market size/potential?  Recruiters often seek proof that candidates have done extensive research on their company prior to an interview.

Ideal Candidate Characteristics:

  • Grit & a strong work-ethic
  • Positive attitude
  • Coach-ability and willingness to learn
  • Competitive nature
  • Intelligent
  • Self-confidence (MOST IMPORTANT)

Maybe not that much self-confidence, but you're on the right track...

What is the best way to apply and get noticed by a recruiter?

Get Referred! - knowing someone who currently works at your target company who can personally submit your resume to the hiring manager drastically increases your chances of getting noticed by a recruiter. Plus, most companies offer some type of referral bonus to internal employees to encourage this activitiy.

Connect & Network - regularly attend great local events like ours!  But seriously... get out there and meet people.  We've had two people find new jobs from this most recent event, not to mention the many others who found great jobs from previous Top Rep events. Boston is a small city and strong, professional relationships will help your chances of success.

Very IMPORTANT TAKEAWAY

Be mindful that recruiters are typically well networked with other recruiters here in Boston....
